Photochemically Induced Spinal Cord Injury
Abstract
A spinal cord injury model was described by a photochemical reaction using rose bengal and argon laser in rats(150-250gm, n=10). In this model, light-dye interactions induce primary micro-vascular stasis, resulting in consistent patterns of tissue necrosis. Neurological functions were assessed starting 1 day after irradiation and continuing for 35 days.
1) Lesion was located in the dorsal half including corticospial tract in post-irradiation 4 day rat.
2) Locomotive test and inclined plane test was recovered in 14 days, 4 days respectively.
